FAMILY RESTORATION PROJECT 2009
As part of the five-year strategic plan, FLN decided to carry out the “Family Restoration Project 2009” (FRP). This project was to direct the intervention to the most vulnerable group, the children and the youth. This group is most affected by broken and dysfunctional family relationships. Some of the symptoms of brokenness in families is seen in things such as increasing divorce and separation, neglect of children, the rising rate of HIV infection (especially with in marriages), domestic violence (now at epidemic level), defilement and sexual abuse, increasing cases of incest, gross corruption, lawlessness, increasing and more sophisticated prostitution, brutal murder within families, school burnings, street children etc, to mention but a few. It is also the group that provides the most viable entry point in reaching families effectively. Furthermore it is this group that provides a window of opportunity for reversing the current downward spiral, which the society is taking now.
Through the FRP, the funds raised through the walk will be used to roll out and scale-up FLN programs that have produced success stories in the past that more people are reached. The goal is to reach 20,000 children and youth (age 10-18), 5,000 parents and 1,000 teachers in the 200 primary and secondary schools in Makindye Division of Kampala in the year 2009.
It is envisaged that impact of this project will be the reduction in HIV infection, domestic violence, divorce and separation, indiscipline among students, crime rate, prostitution etc. the project will help lay the foundation for positive family values and morals in division thereby enhancing family stability/relationships and the quality of life. This will provide an atmosphere of hope and sustainable self-determination to the youth.
There will also be an increase in social cohesion, order, stability and economic advancement.
