Schools

Students of Green Hill on holiday programFamily Life Network, Why target schools?
As the Version States “To Restore Morals and Family Values”, it’s clear that every one of us has a family in which we belong and depending on what kind of family one comes from, there is a call for attention.
As young people are targeted and influenced into wrong morals and values, Family Life Network on the other hand is looking at them as tomorrow’s leaders and parents who need proper guidance so that when they stand tomorrow, hopefully Uganda will be a better place.

The problem
Ugandan schools are facing ever increasing challenges of moral decline, deviant sexual practices such as homosexuality, lesbianism, alcohol abuse, drug abuse and more serious discipline issues such as burning of schools, youth are growing in challenging circumstances such as dysfunctional family relationships, neglect by parents and influence of the global culture infiltrating the society through the media, entertainment industries, and the internet not forgetting poor role models parading themselves all over for the young people to emulate.
All these seem to destroy tomorrow’s generation if not addressed to the youth at an early age thus the need to target them in schools.
Schools reached
Since 2003, the school department has reached schools in Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono district and on some occasions been invited to other regions of the country.

How are schools reached?
Family Life Network reaches any school in Uganda provide a door is open for out reach. This is done through invitations by the schools themselves or FLN’s Initiative to seek permission from relevant authorities in schools through proposal writing, face to face meetings, telephone and letter writing.

Objective
To facilitate the grooming generation of confident and transformed youth in Uganda, exposing them to problems that will enhance the development of character and virtues such as good morals, correct attitudes, ethics, integrity all “HIV/AIDS SHELTERED”

Programs and services offered by the school department

Emergency intervention program
This is offered in a school which is hosting Family Life Network for the first time. Here we have two to three hour session of value based sex education program dealing with:-
Introduction to sexuality
Effect of pornography
Question and answer session.

At the end of this session students are challenged to make a commitment to abstinence by signing abstinence cards. This program helps the students appreciate the place of sexuality in relation to all of life and help them to put a side sex and sex related issues for the time being in order to concentrate on their academic work.

Considering that each school has unique challenges, FLN is in a position to conduct sensitization programs on variety of topics that the school may deem necessary.

Moral and Character Package
This program is designed to strengthen the moral and character of students. FLN strongly believes that there is a strong link between characters and success in life.

True Love Waits Club
The program involves opening of a “True Love Waits Club” in a school to provide  support for students who wish to live exemplary and moral lives and also provide a platform where activities that reinforce the good lessons already learnt are conducted.

Student Leader’s Training
This involves offering training in leadership for prefects and other student leaders in order to enhance their leadership skills.

Counseling services
Here we offer general counseling to the whole school on specific designated days. The frequency can be once a term or as school wishes or partner with schools to counsel special cases at the FLN offices. We also counsel through letter writing.

Holiday program.
FLN also runs holiday program for children and youth on holiday which include holiday seminar, day outs, camps etc all these encourage health interaction among youth.

Teacher’s program
The department also caters for teachers who handle these students by offering them teacher’s sensitizations and trainings to help groom a new breed of teachers who provide appropriate care and guidance to students beyond academics.

What next after this?
We appeal to parents, Head teachers, Directors, and all those concerned to try out our programs and definitely our students will shine brighter academically and morally.
About P.C the department has enough of them from which we can make selections.
